Damn that fancy font. The title should read, “90% Straight, 10% Gay, 150% Liberal.”
Prop 2 (FL), Prop 8 (CA), and so many other discriminatory laws have me pissed off.
I’m so pissed off that I don’t think my words can measure up to my inner feelings. (I never took the ‘Write What You Feel to Make Others Understand Good’ class. Maybe I will under the new Socialist Obama government.)
Because most of my reading material is through pictures and blogs, here’s how this bleeding heart liberal 90% straight married mom feels:

The church has no right to limit rights given in the Constitution.
Marriage can be both a legal recognition of property and rights to the other person, and, if so chosen, a recognition by the couple’s religion as a spiritual union. By putting into the Constitution the ‘moral’ restrictions represented by some citizens, they limit the rights so given in the underlying theme of the Constitution.
I would like to hear a non-religious reason for Prop 2 (FL) and Prop 8 (CA) and the other limiting props in other states.

You are absolutely right. There is a separation of church and state for a reason … I don’t want the government in my church … why should I want the church in my government? They are stinkin’ separate entities!!! Even the Bible says to give to Ceasar what is his, and give to God what is His … separation people … separation!
On another note, I’m taking Write What You Feel to Make Others Understand Good at the Zoolander institute in Spring term, wanna take it with me?

There are no good reasons other than the religious ideology which has no place in this legal issue.

Amen. I feel like I’ve said this a million times today, but if two people want to be legally entangled with one another, and if straight folks can chose to do so with or without considering it a religious sacrament, then why does anyone care what types of body parts the two do or don’t have in common? It’s a religion-optional legal contract (though a contract that two people desire to enter into because they are in love, of course, but that’s nobody’s business, either). I will not ever understand the opposition. My heart breaks, but then I wake up smiling thinking about how far we’ve come that we will be served by the first black president of the United States of America, and then I think that maybe there is hope. Someday. But it won’t come easily or without persistence or without people speaking out like you have.

Hell yeah!
And yeah, why is it that Republicans purportedly call for less government until it comes to issues of morality? Then they can’t wait to impose their own values on everyone in the country via legislature.

For what it’s worth, I agree. It’s not my lifestyle, but if gay people want to get married, who’s business is it but their’s? I mean, gay people are a fact of life – it’s time to get over it and move on.
lceel’s last blog post..Friday Haiku – Yes. We can.
From what I’ve been reading, it seems like the pro-ban people targeted minorities with their campaigns, where the opposition largely ignored them.
That tells us where we need to start.

I was really hoping Florida would come through and vote this amendment down. My daughter and I both voted against it. Amazing… I was surprised the measured passed.

Why do you not identify the true problem…the churches…if it werent for religion, what reason would people have against prop 8?
Some say your imaginary invisible friends loves gays, some say he (she/it) hates gays (the bible says so…but lets ignore parts of the bible we dont like, as is the traditional liberal Christian way).
The awesome thing about religion is that everyone can speak for God…because, imaginary invisible creatures cant speak for themselves…
Turn toward the light, and give up the crutch of religion…and suddenly you can make decisions on these issues with the rational thoughtful side of your brains…
Mr.Big’s last blog post..Im constantly amazed
Terribly, terribly tragic that this country’s legal system is allowing prejudice to become a part of our guiding principles. Well, it won’t be the first time…remember when women couldn’t vote? How about when the US constitution said that a black person and a white person couldn’t marry? Yes, that was a religious issue, too. Strange how ridiculous those things seem in retrospect…
