If I were to count the days, I’m hoping we’d be near or around the 1/2-way point of school summer vacation.
But because I have work to do, blogs to write, Facebook statuses to update, and small children hovering around me, I’m not counting the days. Also, I don’t want to do the calculations and find out we haven’t yet hit the middle of summer vacation because I’d likely fall into a coma.
Prior to my girls’ summer vacation actually beginning, I had Grand Plans! of what we were going to do. We made a list of Grand Plans! things to do, places to go, people to see, projects to accomplish, all while I was going to continue doing the “work” I did when they were in school.
Until this point in the middle of July, we’ve crossed off exactly one thing from our Grand Plans! list: Visit Aunt Jackie’s new pool (see photo).
I’m amending the Grand Plans! to include some of the following activities and their successes:
|Prevent the Summer Slide with daily workbook activities||Completed a total number of 8 pages between them.|
|Limit TV watching||Able to watch and pay attention to a solid 5 hours of random Disney Channel shows.|
|Learn how to ride a 2-wheel bike||Completed the final level of Marvel SuperHeroes on the PS3.|
|Participate in the online, at-home math and reading school competition||Conned me into paying for 2 Deluxe Webkinz memberships.|
|Practice proper swimming strokes||Able to stay in a pool without getting out to pee for 3 straight hours.|
What we have done is a whole lot of nothing where “nothing” equals “marathon Disney Channel watching” and “schedule Webkinz parties” and “play Wii jousting and say it’s exercise.”
School starts on August 20th. Someone tell me that’s tomorrow.
