How long can I go without washing my hair before I can consider myself still clean without bragging that I don’t know how long it’s been since I’ve washed my hair?
I’m thinking it has to do with when I start to constantly scratch my head while I think, “Damn, I really need to wash my hair.”
Sometimes that length of time is 2 days, sometimes it’s as long as 5 days. I think. I’m not good at keeping track of my shower schedule. Apparently.
I have long, flowing, naturally curly, naturally blond locks of hair with a touch of un-naturally pink highlights underneath the mane. It’s awesome hair. I’m not really bragging; it really is awesome. It’s the one thing I have to brag about aside from my webbed toes. The answer to your question is YES, I can swim faster because of my webbed toes. Probably faster than Michael Phelps. donotdestroymyolympicdreams
I do take showers regularly. Most days. Almost all of the days. On average.
I don’t always wash my hair. It weighs about 4.92 pounds, give-or-take, by itself so washing it every day would mean drying it every day. And that ain’t happening. Mold would start to grow up in there, and that would NOT be pretty unless you find moldy, stinky hair sexy, and if you do, please get some help.
My 2-3-day-old unwashed MOUSSED hair is more than awesome. I actually get compliments on it. Actual compliments. It’s kinda nice. It can take way too long (TEN WHOLE MINUTES) to fix my hair when it does get fixed, and that’s a lot of Twitter quality time with my kids.
When I do take the time to actually FIX the mane, I tend to keep it fixed for as long as I can, where “can” = “until I can smell it and/or I can’t scratch my scalp enough to take the itch away.”
Moral of this story: If you see me scratching my head, it’s hair-washing day so don’t stick your nose up in my coif. Lesson learned.

My hair isnt quite as curly as yours, but its pretty similar. Mine is curly and SUPER thick and naturally blonde, but I dye it black ( LONNNNG STORY). Anyway, I do the same thing. I sometimes go 5-6 days without washing it. I have been growing it out and it’s a few inches past my shoulders now. And you are so right, it weighs a shit ton and never fully dries! I am curious, what mousse do you use? Because I end up with it in a pony tail because it gets crunchy.

i’ve always used pantene with a hair-dryer diffuser. it’s crunchy at first, but you can re-scrunch to soften.
I recently cut 8 inches off mine. The 30 min of washing and rinsing, followed by 6 hours of air-drying was way too much maintenance for me.
Everybody knows if you blow-dry the curly it becomes a giant anti-sexy frizzball.

and frizzy ain’t sexy.
Word. To all of it. Sans the awesome. But mine’s all ‘rock and roll’ when I allow it to be more than ‘yoga instructor meets art student’ so there’s that.
totally rock n’roll.
LOL, it’s gorgeous. As long as it doesn’t smell too much
I worked with a woman who only washed her hair on the weekend, so by the time Friday came I couldn’t even get within 5m of her, I would gag. It looked ok, but OMW the smell!

makes me wanna barf, so i don’t let it go too long after the smell.
hahaha Yup! My hair tends to be frizztastic so when I can get it to work, I try to milk it as long as I can. Anyway washing your hair daily isn’t good for it, it’s true and also why I feel completely justified.

I have curly hair, but it is not thick. It usually ends up in a ponytail because it doesn’t listen to me, it does whatever it wants to.
mine listens for 2 days, but after that it goes rogue.
I have to wash my hair every other day otherwise the grease takes over and it ain’t pretty.
I wish I had curly beautiful unwashed hair like yours.

i’m understanding that straight hair shows the grease and curly hides it. pretty awesome for me.
I wash mine every 2-5 days too. It’s not really anything except the detangling that I dread. OMG – you know how curly mine is – it’s like rastafarians were fighting wars in trenches in my head after a couple of days, but if I washed it more it’d be dry and frizzy.
I feel your pain, and I’m with you in the reveling too.

yours is a special kind of gorgeous thick n’ curly.
I have always had baby fine, straight boring hair. I would love to have your glorious mane… cuz it is teh awesome.

You ladies might like Lorraine Massey’s Curly Girl ideology and related book (http://tinyurl.com/yh8gpe3): free your hair and your life will follow.
She recommends NEVER WASHING YOUR HAIR.
She does suggest rinsing it daily and/or putting conditioner on the strands, but only selectively on the scalp. Shampoo only if you have bad scratches or once every few weeks.
My hair allegedly never smells and I go for WEEKS without proper shampoo. It’s the super thick and heavy stuff with some wave that can be enhanced with products, which I use liberally in my extra 2 minutes.
However, my hair never really looks that good, but this “regime” (such as it is) reduces the frizziness a great deal.
Definitely give it a peek! That 2 minutes may turn YOU into a goddess.

Your hair rocks. I just shave most of mine off every second week. It’s sessy-chic, and not, like butchy-dyke. (Not that there’s anything wrong with THAT, but I’m just sayin’.) Man, sometimes I wish I had long, curling blonde hair. But that would take a miracle. And a weave. No thanks.
