This kind of has nothing to do with my girl-crush on Rachel Maddow, except it does because now it’s too hard not to have a crush on her smarts.

It’s no secret that I’m a liberal Democrat. I watch and read the news with as open a mind as I can manage. Though I may say that politics are ridiculous, there’s nothing better than following all the flip-flopping, pandering, gaffes, and mind-bending statements made during an election year. Because politics are ridiculous.

Our president is not perfect; no president is. I support President Obama, and with my support comes criticism as I believe it should.

This new healthcare reform law that the President presented to Congress that would require all companies to cover contraception with no copay for women is one I support. Women have the right and responsibility to take care of our bodies with what medical science has provided. Whether we use the contraception to prevent pregnancy, or like in my case to prevent acne, using contraception is a choice made by 98% of American women.

There are times when I watch her show and cringe at how she makes her point, but even the Sweet, Sweet Baby Jeebus and Mama Oprah aren’t always perfect.

I’ve also reserved a chimichanga as my Patronus, so if you see an apparition of Rachel Maddow eating a deep fried burrito, you’ll know it’s my energy protecting myself from evil.

So maybe I don’t know a lot of the details behind the latest hubbub about the Payroll Tax Cut that Congress and the President are cat fighting over, but I do know that $40 a paycheck is significant-ish to my family.

“If Congress fails to extend the payroll tax cut, the typical family making $50,000 a year will have about $40 less to spend or save with each paycheck.” ~ Random White House Spokesperson

Not to give away our income, but I will admit it’s more than $50,000/year. For the sake of privacy and I don’t feel like doing math, we’ll go with $40 from Patrick’s paycheck we’d lose if this mess isn’t straightened out. Really, I just like seeing Obama putting the smackdown on Boner Boehner and the other Republicans, but I’ve been too engrossed in pretend shopping for Christmas to pay more attention to the political news of the week.

I can find a crapton of shite to buy with $40, and since I’m already pretend Christmas shopping, I thought I’d make you a list of what $40 will get you.

• 8.7 Grande Caramel Lattes from Starbucks
• 3/4th of a tank of gas in my Town & Country Turbo

I don’t know about you, but losing that $40 a paycheck will keep me from enjoying my Christmas tree with Yoda atop it, watching over our every move.

And then a millisecond passes, and I think, “HOW THE HELL AM I POSSIBLY RELATED TO OR FRIENDS WITH PEOPLE WHO ACTUALLY LIKE THESE PEOPLE?”

I’d love to be a Princess. Seriously, how cute am I with a crown on my head? I’d rock it.

There’s no way I’d be good at being part of a royal family, but the whole admiration from the entire world slash endless money slash marrying a prince thing would be pretty Awesome.

Plus, I’d never have to clean a toilet ever again.

If given the chance, I could make it work. Even though the Brits just changed their laws to allow for a first-born daughter to become the heir to the throne, I don’t think they’re going to change anything to allow for married American moms to be crowned Princess to their throne. My dreams of being the Princess for a 1st world country will never come to fruition.

And then I heard that my dreams may not be squashed forever. A loophole found in the fabric of our politics! A way for American women to become PRINCESS!

Not only is Herman Cain campaigning for the Republican nomination in the never-ending bid for our nation’s presidency, but he’s also royalty.

He showed off his new monarch status in the most recent of the perpetual Republican “debates” when he referred to Representative Nancy Pelosi as, “Princess Nancy.”

HOW LUCKY IS SHE!?! Not only is she the first woman to have ever been the Speaker of the House, but now she’s a mother fucking PRINCESS?

We all thought she’d reached the pinnacle of her career when she was the first woman to be 2nd in line to the office of the President. But she’s now a Princess, crowned by someone who has never held a political office? DREAM. COME. TRUE.

Since announcing our first-ever American Princess, Mr. Cain tried to remove Fancy Nancy’s crown, saying he “probably” shouldn’t have made the pronouncement. You can’t take it back now, Mr. Cain. You announced it on Twitter, and Twitter is forever. Once you’re a Princess, you’re a Princess for life. No take-backsies you scoundrel, Mr. Cain!

America is an amazing place to call home, where a woman can go from being a mother to being an elected official in the highest office short of the White House to being a mother fucking Princess.

Well done, Princess Nancy. We stand with you and revel.

Sweet Baby Jeesus, I hate a preachy post about politics and religion.

If you’re new to me (WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN?), you’ll need to know that I’m a bleeding heart liberal who drank the Obama Kool-Aid and wants people to be healthy and happy. I like money when I have it, but I hate money when I don’t. I want people to have as much money as they can get, but not at the expense of others.

It’s a crazy thing to think today that people should be happy with what they choose to do with their lives. I believe in strict regulation to keep people safe, but I also believe in the government staying out of our personal choices. I believe in the Golden Rule, but I don’t believe that religion belongs in government. I watch and have a major girl-crush on Rachel Maddow, listen to Michael Moore, and read The Huffington Post, but I also do my homework to try to find the full truth behind what they present.

I believe George Carlin was one of the great thinkers of our time. He wasn’t given his due respect because his “radical” beliefs were seen as “radical.”

Since his death in 2008, George Carlin’s words have become more of a prophecy than commentary. Most profound is the monologue he gave in 2006 at his concert, Life is Worth Losing.

If you don’t believe me or even if you do, read this and tell me it doesn’t resonate today:

There’s a reason for this, there’s a reason education sucks, and it’s the same reason it will never ever ever be fixed. It’s never going to get any better. Don’t look for it.

Be happy with what you’ve got… because the owners of this country don’t want that. I’m talking about the real owners now… the real owners. The big wealthy business interests that control things and make all the important decisions. Forget the politicians. The politicians are put there to give you the idea that you have freedom of choice. You don’t. You have no choice. You have owners.

They own you. They own everything. They own all the important land. They own and control the corporations. They’ve long since bought and paid for the Senate, the Congress, the state houses, the city halls. They got the judges in their back pockets and they own all the big media companies, so they control just about all of the news and information you get to hear. They got you by the balls.

They spend billions of dollars every year lobbying. Lobbying to get what they want. Well, we know what they want. They want more for themselves and less for everybody else, but I’ll tell you what they don’t want. They don’t want a population of citizens capable of critical thinking. They don’t want well-informed, well-educated people capable of critical thinking. They’re not interested in that. That doesn’t help them. That’s against their interests.

That’s right. They don’t want people who are smart enough to sit around a kitchen table and think about how badly they’re getting fucked by a system that threw them overboard 30 fuckin’ years ago. They don’t want that. You know what they want? They want obedient workers. Obedient workers, people who are just smart enough to run the machines and do the paperwork. And just dumb enough to passively accept all these increasingly shittier jobs with the lower pay, the longer hours, the reduced benefits, the end of overtime and vanishing pension that disappears the minute you go to collect it.

And now they’re coming for your Social Security money. They want your fuckin’ retirement money. They want it back so they can give it to their criminal friends on Wall Street. And you know something? They’ll get it. They’ll get it all from you sooner or later ’cause they own this fuckin’ place.

It’s a big club and you ain’t in it. You and I are not in the big club. By the way, it’s the same big club they use to beat you over the head with all day long when they tell you what to believe. All day long beating you over the head with their media telling you what to believe, what to think and what to buy.

The table is tilted, folks. The game is rigged and nobody seems to notice. Nobody seems to care. Good, honest, hard-working people: white collar, blue collar, it doesn’t matter what color shirt you have on. Good, honest, hard-working people continue — these are people of modest means — continue to elect these rich cocksuckers who don’t give a fuck about them.

They don’t give a fuck about you. They don’t give a fuck about you. They don’t care about you at all! At all! At all! And nobody seems to notice. Nobody seems to care. That’s what the owners count on. The fact that Americans will probably remain willfully ignorant of the big red, white and blue dick that’s being jammed up their assholes every day, because the owners of this country know the truth.

It’s called the American Dream, ’cause you have to be asleep to believe it.

If I’m getting all political up in this space, you know I’m serious. And when I get serious, you best watch yourself. There’s only a few things in this world that gets my passions burning, and aside from wronging my children, a twinkly vampire throwing me around our honeymoon suite, or taking away my TV and/or internet, my passionate inner beast will cut a bitch over the gays.

Aside from being confused about some people having the rights to other people’s lives, there’s the whole Being A Major Asshole About The Gays deal I don’t get. But this is not about the gays. This is about respect and lack thereof.

If you are booing loudly at a man who is actively serving in our military when his video question is shown at a political debate?

You should be tried in a court of law for treason.

It happened at the Google/Fox News Republican Debate on Thursday when Rick Santorum* was asked via video by an active duty soldier if he would “circumvent the progress that has been made for gays and lesbians in the military.” Before Santorum answered the soldier’s question with an answer that included phrases like, “any type of sexual activity has absolutely no place in the military” and “we would reinstitute [DADT] if Rick Santorum was president,” there was a several-second pause whereby several audience members booed the soldier’s question:(...)

Whatever opinion you or I have about the Murdoch/News Corp scandal here and in the UK, you have to give it up to Wendi Deng for sticking up for her man.

In front of the British hearing on July 19th, a protester threw a shaving cream pie in Rupert Mudoch’s face. Murdoch’s wife, 38 years his senior, was sitting behind him during the hearing.

Appearing more like a ninja-in-waiting than his wife, Deng sprang up in a split-second to help others protect her husband.

Bitch got her arm in gear and punched the shit out of the protestor. The punch was so hard, you could hear it on the video. You don’t mess with a woman and her sugar daddy.

I can’t say I would have done the same thing for my husband. But, I’m not married to an 80-year-old man who is nodding off in “the most humble day of (his) life,” in front of people who could control his future in British media.

Because there’s no way I could sleep with a man who needed me to wipe his mouth more often than he needed me to wipe his ass.

Bristol Palin, single mom daughter to (probable) GOP Presidential candidate Sarah Palin, has written a book in which she describes the night when she became pregnant with her son, Tripp. According to Bristol, a teenager at the time, had been drinking with her friends, and her boyfriend at the time, Levi Johnston “stole” her virginity.

As a mom, a woman, and a former teenager with boyfriends, I know that anything that happened to me when I was drinking was my own uninhibited choice. I don’t and didn’t have the right to blame someone for taking anything from me, including my virginity. Bristol clarified in an interview Monday with Robin Roberts on Good Morning America that she isn’t saying that Levi “raped” her, but she is accusing him of “stealing” her virginity.

To me, that’s saying that she had no choice in allowing him to have sex with her, just like you don’t give a burglar the right to enter your home.

Is this Bristol (and most likely her publicist and book publisher) using semantics to dance around the fact that she blames Levi for her bad choice in having unprotected sex that lead to a pregnancy?

This is what it looks like to me: Bristol is blaming her boyfriend for getting her pregnant while she was drunk.

She herself is saying he didn’t rape her. She’s not accusing Levi of rape. But is she taking any responsibility for the choices she made while she was under the influence? No.

I’ve never been raped. I’ve never been molested. I’ve never been taken advantage of to the point that I blame anyone other than myself.

I’ve been drunk. When I was younger, I would drink to the point of releasing my inhibitions. I do know that some of the boys and men I was around would try to take advantage of my inebriated state. I would never, ever accuse any of these men of “stealing” anything sexually from me, including my virginity, because of my drunken state..

I wonder if Bristol Palin is now changing her employment focus from an abstinence spokesperson to a spokesperson for an underage drinking awareness organization.
