It’s been a long time coming, this one about my panties.

I’ve been putting off finding a new favorite style of underwear for far too long. You can see it in the holes and the way the sides of my current undies roll down my hips.

*Faces covered to protect the innocent.

Those very comfy, very stretched out, very beige, very cotton “hipster” Granny panties on the left are approximately 6 years old. They are made by Barely There and are a size XL, which in the obscure world of lingerie, equates to an 8.

Those very new, very not stretched out, very beige, very someotherfabricthatisnotcotton “hipster” Granny panties on the right are approximately 2 days old. They are also made by Barely There and are a size XL, or the obscure lingerie size of 8.

Obviously, I needed the new pair of underwears I bought shown on the right. However, they are not the same style as the ones on the left. They may both be very boring beige and are both “hipsters” and they are made with similar fabrics, BUT THEY ARE NOT THE SAME.

This does not please me.

I, and I’m sure many other women around the world, would like to purchase the same panties to which I have grown accustomed as replacements.

Holy underwear is not cool. OK, except in the case of a draft, and then they’re breezy. But I want to replace my holy underwears with new, SAME panties as the ones like on the left above that I’ve grown to love.

I want the panties that don’t roll down my hips, don’t bunch up my ass crack, don’t show out of the top of my jeans when I bend over, and don’t cut off the circulation to my legs.

With this, I’m filing a formal complaint to the manufacturers of women’s underwear.

Attention All Ladies Undergarments Makers:

Because of the curvaceous nature of my body, shopping for new panties is an unpleasant task. I’m not sure you’re aware of this fact, as you seem to think I like changing how my underwears fit on my nethers.

Women don’t like change in relation to how our undies fit on our bottoms.

Once I’ve entered into this period in my life known as a certain age, I am comfortable in a style and a fabric and a fit and price. Unless my derrière drastically changes shape and size, I stick to what I know.

When you, the panties manufacturers of the world, decide to change up your styles and fabrics and fits of your ladies panties, I, a women of a certain age, am unhappy.

Please, Hanes, Bali, Victoria’s Secret, Barely There, Soma, Fruit of the Loom, etc, when you make a panty and it sells more than 10 pairs, I need you to make them FOR LIFE.

I don’t want to have to go Commando just because I can’t find the new Perfect Panty. It’s not pleasant. Trust me.

But, I’m sure you know that because you’re in the business of clothing the unpleasantries.

Peace & love,
Angie

P.S. Let me know when you can make this happen. I have a drawer full of holy, breezy, stretched-out underwear that needs replacing. You’ll know I’m wearing the old, breezy, rolling-down panties when you watch me walk 10 steps, and I reach into my jeans to pull them back up around my hips.

My husband is lucky to have me as his wife.

There’s no more profound statement I can make other than saying “TV is Everything” and “Brownies Bring Happiness.”

Patrick is damn lucky to have me as his wife.

One of the many things he likes to say is that I have too many purses. “But you don’t NEEEED another purse.”

Friends, I do not have too many purses. We’ve been together since 1995, so going on the 17 years of togetherness bliss, I’m sure a man would think that the 20+ bags-used-as-purses I have in the closet would qualify to him as being “too many.”

I get a new purse about ever 6-12 months. We ladies use our purses on a daily basis. We carry them with us everywhere we go from Target to the movies to shopping to hanging on the door of a toilet stall.

Pro tip: Never put your purse under a black light.

We ladies need new purses for our health.

I am the best wife in the history of the damn world.

I don’t shop for purses at the fancy pants designer stores. Before kids, sure I coveted and even bought a Coach purse, but Patrick gave me my first one! Sure I had a Kate Spade diaper bag, but my sister bought it for me!

Since pushing my beauties out of my bagina, I can estimate that I’ve spent no more than $200 TOTAL on purses. That’s not on one purse, but on all the purses I’ve owned since birthing my children.

I told you, he’s lucky to have me.

While waiting out the carpets to dry after Rug Doctoring them, we went to the outlet malls to walk around and not shop.

The Vera Bradley Outlet store had a 20% OFF EVERYTHING sale.

I had to look.

Because.

And I found her.

Isn’t she pretty?

Ask me how much I paid for her.

ASK ME.

$29.

I paid $29 for a Vera Bradley purse that retails for $68.

Did I need a new purse?

This is the Lands’ End Canvas purse I’ve been using for 7 months for which I paid $13.

You tell me. Did I need a new purse, or do I just plain deserve to have something new and pretty?

A.S. There is a giveaway of a $100 gift certificate to TeaCollection.com below. You could go ahead and skip to the bottom to enter, or you could be extra Awesome and read all or most of the words I wrote between here and there.

My youngest daughter, Claire, loves her sparkles and glitter and anything that flashes. When she sees a shirt with a peace symbol and rainbows or a jacket with Hello Kitty, she pretend-faints dramatically onto the store floor.

Me, the opposite of a girlie girl, has a daughter who is the epitome of just that. I sometimes wonder if she’s mine, except for the fact that I remember birthing her and she looks just like me. She and my other daughter, who is more like me when it comes to tastes, could be the poster children for a Nature vs. Nurture study.

I was offered the opportunity to order some clothing from the high-end online clothing store, Tea, several weeks ago. I’m usually the mom who buys up every color of the $4, one season t-shirt from Target and Old Navy, so I jumped at the chance to get to try out some top-quality clothes on my girls.

Yes, I know it’s expensive. No, it’s not clothes I would normally buy for my girls. However, the quality of the clothing speaks for itself. They don’t sell this stuff at Target, people.

Tea is an online clothing store with a message of spreading cultural diversity through their clothes. Each of the pieces they design is meant to inspire you to learn about the culture from which is was inspired. From the collars on the shirts to the way the skirts fall, each design element is inspired by the world travels of the people at Tea. Though the inspiration comes from world cultures, the styling fits right into today’s most critical eye for fashion.

Just ask my Claire.

(I have no idea why she’s holding a pictoral dictionary, but it adds some class.)

There’s not a sparkle or sequin or peace symbol on this outfit, but she loves it. She flits an flutters around the house when she puts on this skirt and top outfit from Tea. I honestly think it’s because she knows good quality when she sees it. She gets that from me.

I let the girls pick out their outfits from the Tea website, and Anna chose to get an ensemble that included 3 dresses and 2 pairs of leggings.

I’ve admitted in the past that I’m a horrible gift giver as well as a bad gift receiver. Really, it’s because I’m a selective perfectionist. Let’s blame my mother.

I have ideas on what I’d like to receive, and I have grand magical plans of what I’d like for someone’s reaction when they open the gift I’ve given them. The reaction I want to see is the recipient to do the Snoopy Dance of Joy while screaming to all of his/her friends that I am the most Awesome person in the world. When the reaction they have is less than overjoy, I feel like a gift-giving failure.

See that picture of my dad up there? That’s what I want everyone to look like when they open a gift I gave them. Never mind that he has that face because a plaque he gave my mom for her first hole-in-one has her name misspelled, but that’s the face I want to see when you open something from me.

My surefire plan of attack when shopping for gifts (an ongoing activity between now and Christmas) is to find the most obscure, unknown gift that has some kind of practical purpose that doesn’t cost me a house payment. I’m finicky like that.

[Pee Ess: Don't start drinking your Haterade because I'm talking about holiday shopping already. I know some people ::cough:: my mother-in-law ::cough:: who have been shopping since early summer. I hate to break it to you, but Christmahanukkwansmakuh is merely weeks away. Deal with that.]

I rarely blog about typical “mommyblogger” stuffs. You know, the posts about coupons, giveaways, Super Crafters, and How-To Guides on getting your toddler to quit using the houseplants as toilets. Notthatthere’sanythingwrongwiththat, it’s just not me.

Because I’m a mom and I blog, I fall into the non-mommyblogger’s category of being a mommyblogger. So why not own up to it? I’m not good at a lot of mothering sorts of things unless you count telling the girls to leave my living room to spend their afternoon in their rooms because I’m tired of seeing them argue as “good mothering.” Or maybe pictures of how we leave the sink full of dirty dishes can count as mommyblogging? I’m good at that.

Earlier this week, both girls started school at the same school on the same schedule for the same low, low price of free. I’ve been on a week-long bender of what I like to call, “Getting Shit Done.” It’s nice around here during the day. Sure, I miss the girls when I think about them. But, mama’s got her TV back and with it, her sanity. That, my friends, is good mothering.(...)
Read the rest of A New Day! A New Year!
Thank you to Crocs for sponsoring this blog post. Please click here to learn more about Crocs’ new Back to School line. I was selected for this sponsorship by the Clever Girls Collective. All opinions expressed here are my own.

Last school year, my daughter’s preschool class was having Water Day, and the instructions for what to wear and bring to school included, “Water shoes required, NO CROCS.” Me being the A) unabashed Crocs lover that I am, and B) a rule-following mama, I had questions for the school director.

Me: I saw on the Water Day guidelines that Crocs are not allowed to be worn, but the kids need to wear “closed-toe water shoes.” Can you clarify what you mean by “water shoes”?

Director: We mean, any shoe that has a skid-free bottom that’s made to wear in the water.

Me: I realize that you mean the Crocs that are the typical clogs that are over-sized and can fall off of anyone’s foot with the smallest of ankle flick, but there are other style Crocs my girls have that stay on their feet better than any off-brand water shoe. Before I send Claire to school in her Crocs that stay on and don’t slip, I just want to make sure that all Crocs are off limits, even if they stay on her feet.

Director: Yes. Any Crocs are not allowed to be worn for Water Day.

Me: OK, thanks! I’m off to Target to spend $10 on shoes that will fall off of her feet even though they have “Water Shoes” in the name.

Crocs have come a long way since the introduction of the over-sized clogs. I know this, you probably know this, but so many school administrators don’t know that even though the shoes say “Crocs,” they are 100% school-approved.

Because these totally adorable, totally comfortable, totally school-approved-worthy shoes, ARE CROCS:

There are some rules that are meant to be broken:

eating after 7pm

watching more than 2 hours of TV a day

drinking a Zima after prom

There are some rules that are meant to be adhered to:

drinking and driving

staying in school

wearing rompers as an adult women

Let’s discuss the last rule at length, because it’s really one that should be honored by all women over the age of fresh-out-of-college. Like me, most women are what you’d call Fashionably Challenged, but even the majority of women know there are some things meant to be worn by toddlers or teenagers who count Ke$ha as their fashion icon.

It’s unsure whether dressing in the same shirt day after day in each of the colors sold by the clothier of your choice (my personal fashion secret) may not get you out of being caught in a from-the-neck-down Fashion Don’t on Tim Gunn’s next Bravo special. However, wearing one of these currently- or recently-available frocks, should get you a one-way ticket to TLC’s What Not to Wear.

I’m going to speak for the 80% of the women population who are a size 8 and above and say, “Thank you!” to Bleulab designer, Carl Jones.

THANK YOU for not making these reversible jeans in a size that reaches into the double digits.

THANK YOU for making your jeans so that if our thighs rub together, we won’t have to worry about squeezing into your reversible jeans.

THANK YOU for understanding that us ladies of an 8+ size would not want to wear the same jeans inside out because the pilling on the inside of the thighs would rub inside the jeans thus giving us even more thigh rubbage.

THANK YOU for not tempting us girls with some junk in our trunk to want to spend ONE HUNDRED AND SIXTY-THREE DOLLARS on a pair of jeans, even if you do think they can count as two pair.

THANK YOU for understanding that we of a certain size need to air out the crotches of our jeans and for knowing that simply turning them inside out won’t do the trick. We love that you know that if we were to turn our day-worn jeans inside out, our lady stank would waft into the air and that’s something we fatties like to keep to ourselves.

Oh dear sweet, sweet Baby Jeebus and Oprah.

The Easter Dress Holiday is nearly upon us!

You may be confused as to why I’d be super over-the-moon esscited that it’s Easter Dress Holiday seeing as I’m not a Christian, PER SE. But because my extended family is all up in Jesus’ bidness and celebrates things that Jesus does like spreading the chocolatey cheer of plastic eggs, jelly beans and deviled eggs, I’m all for Easter.

Or rather, I’m all for Easter Dresses.

When the sweet, sweet Baby Jeebus and Oprah bestowed upon me 2 gorgeous little girls, it was like they were saying, “Pangie, I giveth to you these girls to dandify in the most beautiful of all frills and matchy-matchy dresses once a year in celebration of the Easter Bunny.”

And I sayeth unto thee, “Thank you, oh blessed ones, sweet, sweet Baby Jeebus and Oprah, you’re my only hope. I will do unto thee as thee would do unto me, and I will bedrape my beauteous girls in the most frilly and matchy-matchy of all dresses I can find <del>under $15 at Target</del>.”

But this year’s Easter Bunny celebration will be more EPIC than all other East Bunny celebrations combined.

I HAVE A NEW BABY GIRL.

More specifically, my sister will have a baby girl just in time for the Easter Dress Holiday.

And friends, if you’re keeping count, that gives me my two girls, my 2-year-old nephew and my BRAND SPANKING NEW BABY NIECE to dress for the Easter Bunny celebration.

I’m gonna have to take a nervous-poop break just to finish writing this post.

I am that esscited.

Because this weekend while walking through my Mecca of Affordable Children’s Clothing, I spotted The Dress.

THE dress that my brand new, will-be-5-1/2-week-old niece NEEDS to be wearing.

I. DIE.

Luckily for me and everyone who will ever see the multitude of photographs that will be taken on Easter Dress Holiday, there are also same-but-different dresses for my girls.

Now I need to convince my sister that my nephew needs a matching pink boy suit with penny loafers.

… and their grandmother’s credit card on which to purchase all of these clothes.

It’s what the sweet, sweet Baby Jeebus and Oprah would want.
