It was more like listening - well, it was listening - during the 7 hour drive on the way home today.
I had to pause the CD about 50 times to hear what was dropped by the little misses OR what they wanted to eat/not eat OR where we were going/coming from OR who was gonna be where and doing what. But that’s expected when you’re the sole driver going across the Sunshine State with a 3-1/2-year-old and a 2-year-old. Don’t be jealous.
Anyhoo, during the drive, I listened to Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen.
Now, I’d LOVE to call myself an avid reader, but for this time in my life (busy with my website, my girls, and not doing housework), I just can’t get up the energy to turn off the TV and read, though I LOVE it when I do. I kind of go in spurts where I’ll read 5 books back-to-back, then I don’t pick one up for 2 years. (Like when I traveled around Europe w/ my mom and sister and read 7 books. Hmmm… I guess I should have been looking out the window instead of the books.) Right now, I’m smack in the middle of a drought.
But my drought is soon ending. I couldn’t get through all 11 1/2 hours of the book on CD during my 7 hour trip (ha! math!), so I’m ordering the book from Amazon - don’t ya love Amazon? I am promising you, my loyal tens of readers, that I WILL finish the book when it arrives in a few days.
Promise.
Any other book suggestions?
I’ll give you mine since you asked:
The Red Tent by Anita Diamant - a MUST for all women
Shopaholic Series by Sophie Kinsella - FUN chic lit
Celebrity Detox by Rosie O’Donnell - all fans and strangerfriends must read
The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown - must read even if you saw the movie - the movie doesn’t do it justice

I recommend The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams… it is bizarre and hilarious. Just in case you saw the somewhat pathetic movie version of this the book is WAY better. It can also be found on book-on-tape and is equally as funny to listen to.

I recommend PS I Love You. I know its a movie now, but I read the book way before it became big…and I loved it, I cried and I laughed. It was so good I had a hard time putting it down.
I also recommend the Yada Yada series. Its another good one for many laughs, and trials, and it reminds you why our girlfriends are so important to us!
Have a great day!

If you liked Da Vinci Code, read Angels and Demons. It’s the prequel to the Da Vinci and is awesome. This is the second review I’ve read of Water for Elephants. I think I need to read it.

I just don’t have time to read, and I need some quiet to read also…it’s not quiet in my house. I’ve been working out everyday, so I’m thinking of getting some Audio books to listen to while I’m doing Cardio. Good post!

The Shopaholic series always catches my eye in the bookstore. I’ll have to check it out!
I love Karen’s Kingsbury’s books (? I think that’s right). She’s a Christian author that writes awesome books that aren’t overloaded with too much… unappropriate stuff. Books I can pass on to my friends without wondering if they’ll find it acceptable.

Yes it’s nearly 1000 pages long, but I loved loved loved “Pillars of the Earth.” Also…you will really like “Water For Elephants.” Oh and “Eat Pray Love” - Really good!

Marley & Me by John Grogan was a fun and easy read. I really enjoyed it and you don;t have to be a dog lover to identify. Or how about The Memory Keeper’s Daughter by Kim Edwards ?
I was just thinking about picking up Celebrity Detox by Rosie O’Donnell. Thanks.
