I love my TiVo. Seriously. I love it. If I wasn’t married already, I’d hook up with TiVo. It’s an integral part of our family. TiVo has been with us before we had our girls. I dare say, without TiVo, we would not be the family we are now. Season Pass, 7-second jump-back, pause live TV, and search by title are just some of the characteristics of my beloved.
But as life changes and technology improves, TiVo must move out of the living room. My love is not going far - just into the bedroom. I’m sure TiVo will be happy in there to be used only an hour a day as opposed to the 15 it’s used to. I’d like to think of it as retirement.
Who, pray tell, is moving in on TiVo’s territory? A brand-spanking-new DirecTV HD DVR. Oh yes. When Mr. DirecTVinstallationman delivers my new transporter-of-all-that-is-new-and-good-in-HD-on-satellite-TV, I will have to forgo my TiVo for a regular ole DVR.
So, in saying farewell to my TiVo and its Season Pass, I am posting the top 13 Season Passes on my beloved. I thought about going in and changing them around to make it look more smarter than I am, but we’ll just check it now and see what happens to show up. At this second as I write, I have no idea the order it’s in. (For those of you who aren’t familiar with a TiVo Season Pass, you tell TiVo to record every show that you like and you rank them on what to record first and prioritize.) Here it goes (press: TiVo - Pick Programs to Record - Season Pass Manager):
1. Saturday Night Live - Good to watch, but should NOT be #1.
2. Cane - Good new show. Should be lower on the priority list.
3. Traveler - Good show, but not actually on the air now. I hope it comes back.
4. Lost - Best show, but wont be on until January.
5. Heroes - Great show even HockeyMan watches.
6. My Name is Earl - Herlarious
7. The Office - The BEST show on TV. Should be #1.
8. ER - Still great.
9. Grey’s Anatomy - Great show.
10. 24 - Ahhh… Kiefer…
11. CSI: Crime Scene Investigation - I haven’t seen it this year yet because Grey’s and The Office are on at the same time. Next week - two DVRs so Mama can watch it!
12. Family Guy - HockeyMan requires that this should be #1, but he doesn’t look.
13. The L Word - On hiatus at the moment, but an awesome show.
In summary, I will miss my TiVo, but it will not go far. Just steps away in the next room. But I will still miss you, my beloved TiVo. And I am going now to fix this SNL-at-the-#1-position-crap.
That’s where America’s Next Top Model should be.

Is it bad that the only things I ever time to watch are Seinfeld, Friends, and Raymond reruns?
Oh yes, this mama loves her DVR! CSI’s, Grey’s Anatomy and Bones galore!
I LOVE Tivo. It’s really the best invention. Our DirecTV DVR is a Tivo DVR….but I’m not sure that they’re doing that anymore. Anyway, I couldn’t agree more!
Still love ER and I want TIVO
You moving your TiVo has made me cry and made me want to go home and cradle mine in my arms, lovingly!
It is my SAVIOR! Except for last night! It has been acting up lately and I came home at 9:45 last night only to see that TiVo was not doing it’s job and it had neglected to record Private Practice. We had words. Then I saw that it faithfully recorded my TNT episodes of ER and all was right with the world because Dr. John Carter was TiVo’d and I could relax!
Let us know how much you love the new DVR…I’m debating about getting a new brother or sister for my current TiVo so my bedroom cable box won’t be so lonely. My husband doesn’t know this yet…nor does he know that I’ve deleted many of his Season Passes because I think they suck!
I can SOO relate. out TiVo died and we replaced it with the DirecTv HD DVR. I am getting used to it, but io do miss my Tivo. I did hear a rumor that DirecTv is going back to Tivo. We can only hope! Great list. I LOVE The Office.
You’re going on to bigger and better! Lucky Bitch!
Great list! We have a DVR, not TiVo so I’m not familiar with the season pass thing, but I love all of the other features.
I love my DVR! The only show on your list that I watch is ER but they better have something exciting happen quickly because I am starting to lose interest.
I love my Tivo!! Couldn’t live without it. Hubby had to practically drag me to get Tivo, but now I couldn’t live without it.
I watch a few of the shows on your Season Pass List. I guess all the good ones are at the end of your list like, Dirty Sexy Money, Private Practice or my new fav Pushing Daisies.
Ooo..I enjoy watching CSI @ home with husband & popcorn..hehee..
as a fellow TiVo owber/addict, i feel your pain. i don’t know what i would do without mine, or what i would do if we had to go to a normal DVR.
my heartfelt condolences
I love, love, love The Office. Are you watching 30 Rock? It too is brilliant. I’ve also checked out that new show Pushing Daisies and it’s extremely promising.
It’s totally awful that I’ve never experienced Tivo. Never.
Isn’t that weird? Well, people tell me it’s weird.
Anyway - have a blast with your new DirectTv DVR!!!
I don’t have Tivo because of my fear that I would never do anything else ever again! I have enough trouble leaving my laptop and iPod alone so I can do stuff like make dinner for the kids and do laundry!!!
Great TT!
What is Tivo?
I see you list almost all the Thursday night shows, but not 30 Rock, which I love. Earl has lost the plot and become pretty grim this season. Time to pull the plug I think. The Office is good, but not as good as the original. ER grinds on, dependable as always but it will never be as good as it used to be.
My wife & I cut loose of our beloved TiVo Series 2 dual-tuner box last Saturday and instead embraced a Motorola HD dual-tuner DVR/digital cable box via Grande Comm. Just couldn’t justify the considerable expense of moving to the new TiVo HD and renting two CableCards.
Now, to be certain, I’m sorely missing the “ta-took” sounds and the comfy, familiar interface, but there’s no denying how nice it is to record in high def. And the Motorola remote is truly universal - it’ll run the cable box, TV, receiver, & even our DVD player. And even with adding the high def tier to get the box, this solution ends up costing us less per month than we were playing with TiVo.

I love my Tivo and couldn’t I mean couldn’t live without it!!
WHAT? Lost isn’t back until January! Dammit.
I love my Tivo. If I could mate with it, I would.
