I Have A Thing. I’ve Never Had A Thing.

Angie The following is a reply to an email I received from a girl I knew in high school. Her email is after my reply. She actually doesn’t know that this is being published, so I took out her name. If she wants to out herself, she will, but that’s her decision. I didn’t decide to make this a public reply until I was nearly finished typing out my email, and I’m not going back to take anything out, so what you’re getting is my actual feelings and unedited words.

My point in all this is that I have A Thing. I’ve never had A Thing. And having A Thing makes me have feelings that are new to me.

It’s 50 shades of awesome.

I’m having feelings because you thought enough to email me.

Thank you. Seriously, thank you for thinking enough to email me and tell me these things. It’s nice, but admittedly bizarre, to hear that what I’m doing actually makes a difference to people, especially people I know.

Anyhooch—don’t be too chicken shit to post about what you like on Facebook or wherever. You’re a damn adult. Before admitting to the world that I read dirty books, I was on the Down Low, too. Having people (family, friends, relatives, teachers, etc.) know that I was reading about sex and other filthy things was pretty much the scariest thing ever. But then I had a revelation something along the lines of “OH YEAH, I’M A DAMN ADULT. Fuck all you hos—I’m going public!”

And guess what happened: I found my people. I found all those other women who are reading about good and bad sex, romance, and tragedy, all of us loving what were doing and reading. There are so many of us out there, and we’re not going away.

My friends didn’t shun me, my family didn’t excommunicate me, and my relatives didn’t reject me when I came out as a smut reader. Actually, quite the opposite happened. I’ve kind of come into my own, finally at 36 (am I really 36? wait. let me do the math…yep.) years old. It’s my thing. I’ve never had a thing before.

I think my point in all this rambling (that by now has become an essay I’ve just copied into a blog post for all the world to see) is that THANK YOU. Thank you for taking the time to think enough about what I do to write to me. I may not be saving the world from famine or bringing back My So Called Life, but if what I’m doing makes even just one other person happy, I feel like I’ve accomplished something.

Thanks for making me feel like I’ve accomplished more than just being able to watch TV and play on the computer at the same time.

You’re extra pretty.

Hey Lady,
The smut site looks great, lots of changes since the last time I checked. I had to click around until I found your curly hair and glasses to make sure I was on the right site! 🙂 Speaking of which, your contact buttons weren’t working in chrome…I save my smut for PMs, too chicken to post, I should probably just create an alter ego.

Anywhoo…I was writing to tell you about “With me in Seattle” by Kristen Proby, but after a little more clicking, I saw that you had already rated it. So, I wanted to say hi anyway, since the first book made me think of you, since Nat talked about “Sweet baby Jesus” and all “the pretty” and it made me think of you! 😉 Plus, finally no broke, 19 year old virgins, hallelujah!!!

BTW, since you’re BFFs with Alice Clayton, tell her I love the new redhead covers! To be honest, that’s why I held out on reading them for as long as I did, but your recommendation swayed me and I loved them, Wall Banger too!

Thanks for all your hard work on behalf of smut everywhere.

Angie-pangie is awesome because she says all the things.

Always admire that you are who you are. No apologies. And what you are is inspirational, hilarious and extra rad.
