Seriously.
OK - I’m lying. It’s waaay to cold there for me. I’m a native Floridian for Pete’s sake. I can’t deal with snow and weather under 50 degrees. Nope. Can’t do it.
Why, you ask, would I move to Canada? I lurves a list:
- They’re SO nice. Every single person I’ve talked to in Canada (most from my business) is so nice. Not that I’ve tried, but they never get upset or mad. And with their accent, they sound so nice. Kinda like the English sound smart. The Canadians sound nice.
- Free health care. Please don’t comment about politics here - I just want to get my head scanned without having to pay $1200, then $50 for follow ups, and another $800 for a 2nd scan, etc. And I still owe the hospital for some part of Bear’s birth. She’s almost 2. It’s not that I just didn’t pay - they got the insurances all messed up and are just now realizing I didn’t pay for something. All this crap, and we HAVE insurance. I can’t even imagine what it’s like for someone without it or on Medicaid.
- Hockey. HockeyMan would be in heaven to have hockey around him 24/7. Aside from living in the Coliseum (no, not the Colliseum), I think living in Canada would make his life.
So, please, Canada, lower your temperature so I can move to your blessed country. Who knows - depending on who is elected as President next year, I may have to bundle up and move anyway.

Yeah, I’d totally live there too. I keep telling my husband we could go there and he could become a mounty (or however you spell their cop guys on horses). LOL!
I would love to live in Canada, not the coliseum. It is old and desperate for a makeover. I’d live next door, or in some nice suburb with easy access to mass transit.
LOL HockeyMan…I have to say I have often thought of moving north myself. Thankfully, I’m used to the cold so that wouldn’t be to much of a shock.
Not to mention their maternity leave policy - almost enough to make me pick up and move even with the cold weather!
well, I for one would welcome you up here in the great white north of Canada! And yes, I am a nice Canadian. And yes, it is cold here. It is, in fact, snowing right now. BUT I do have FREE health care, ONE FULL YEAR of PAID maternity leave per child, and lots of hockey. Not to mention the wide open spaces and our dollar is currently worth more than yours for the first time in decades.
Canada is looking better by the minute isn’t it?
And don’t forget we have pretty strict gun laws here so it is highly unlikely that you will be shot down in a drive by shooting. It is more likely that you will lose a toe to frostbite.
By the way, it is spelled Mountie. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police specifically. They don’t always ride horses either. Just for special occasions to impress Americans. Just kidding.
Yeah, I loves me some Canadians too, ‘eh.
Unfortunately, they’re really restricting immigration now.
We would love to have you! And you know, some areas aren’t really THAT cold. Like BC. It’s warm there, especially if you’re near the coast like Vancouver. Where I live, it is freezing, but only for a few months and we do have really warm coats. You get used to it.
And on the health care thing, your system confuses me. I just watched Sicko on the weekend and it made me really, really sad. I had no idea how lucky I was. Sadly, the health care issue alone is the reason I could never move to the States (I am tempted on many levels, but I just couldn’t chance it if me or one of my kids were to get sick. That just scares the crap out of me).
While driving through Canada we were amazed that these nice people will actually - get this - pull off the side of the road and let you pass if they’re going slow and holding up traffic. Who in America does that?
LOL! My hometown is 10 miles SOUTH of Canada…and my Gramps used to be a border patrol….don’t even get me started on the Canadian accent…I don’t have it, but others claim I do! :o)
See, I can’t handle cold weather either. If it’s below 60, that is COLD!
We are sort of nice. Most of the time. But my husband, a transplanted Australian, thinks we are horrible drivers and he actually complained about slow drivers not pulling off to the side of the road.
And if he can survive a Canadian winter, so can you! Personally, I’m just hoping the snow holds off until Christmas Eve.
