I do love me some sexy books. And you’re right, thank goodness for Kindle. Now I don’t have to worry that a guest will see a book I forgot to put away and think “why does she have a book with a naked man holding a very strategically placed blanket on the cover???”

Maya Banks and Shayla Black (same writer) is hard core erotica and not for the faint of heart. BDSM. Menage. When she first started writing, her books were very good. In addition to the screaming, raise the roof sex, she had great character development and plots. You were involved in the story, not just the sex. But now, it’s all about the sex, and in her later novels, the plots are contrived just to provide a loose transition between sex scenes. So my suggestion, stick to her earlier books.

J.R. Ward is classified as romance, not erotica. But her sex scenes are … combustible. Read the Black Dagger Brotherhood series. Read. These. Books. Lover Awakened is quite possibly my favorite. But Lover Mine, Lover Reborn or Lover Avenged might be my favorite at any given time. Ward’s gift is in the hero. They’re flawed, but not assholes. And so amazingly well-written. I am a huge reader, and I have never read a series in which the protagonist is written with such a depth of understanding for the character. On her website, she’s even created these “Q&A” sessions with the characters. It’s amazing. Dark Lover is the first book in the series, and as her first effort, not as good as the rest. I would suggest you read them in order though. One caveat, my biggest complaint about the entire series is the vernacular. The characters use some kind of weird gang slang, and every time I read it, I think who the hell speaks like that??? Certainly not a several hundred year old vampire. If you do read them, please let me know what you think.

Those are totally on my lists to read, but they’re expensive (probably because they’re actually well-written), so I’m waiting for the first to be available from my library for the Kindle.

YES PLEASE read BDB by J.R. Ward you will not regret it. She also has The Fallen Angel series that is great. She also wrote as Jessica Bird and some of her old stuff is being re-released under JR Ward but can still be found in the original form. I enjoyed everything I have read that she has written.
Lynsay Sands- Argenaeu Series this is a great series it is about vampires but they aren’t sparkly vampires they actually have a medical scientific reasoning for their need to drink blood, oh & they have great mind blowing passing out sex it’s all pretty hot!

Lacey Alexander, “Voyeur”. Yowza. Steamy, but without all the bondage that I’m quickly tiring of!

Also, I second the recommendation for Shayla Black. I like how her books are interconnected but don’t have to be read in order. I’m pretty sure her books caused my bondage burnout!

Okay…this is crazy because I just recently outed myself as a Smartie who likes her Smut. I am ridiculous. I am behind on my reader so I had to go back and read your original post with recommendations. My ABSOLUTE favorite. The Night Huntress Series by Jeaniene Frost: vampires, ghouls and a gal who is a half bred who kicks some serious ass falls in love with a hot vamp and oh my….I think my eyes bled from the filth! Series is 8 long and I read them all in about 3 weeks…that good! I love that she is a badass and that he is a bad ass but totally smitten with her and the nitty gritty details are amazing. Seriously. Run. Get them. They are a bit like 50 Shades but with fun supernatural stuff.
Reading 50 shades now. Holy smokes. I am in deep…
My gal pals and I now proudly wear the Book Slut badge. We created a facebook page for each other. It gets pretty funny: a lawyer, a therapist, couple of math geniuses and we like to read our smut. LOL
Love it Angie…great post.
Best,
Tina

I’ll 3rd that one! Cat and Bones (mmmmm Bones) from the Night Huntress series is a MUST read! Also, if you’re into harder stuff, Joey W. Hill is an amazing writer. Even when I think “this is so not my thing and I don’t want to read it” ….I end up reading it and she’s totally hooked me.

Just read Rock Me this past weekend… I think you should add a kink factor also. 1 being fairly vanilla; 5 being holy jesus I didn’t even know that was possible. This book was kind of tame compared to a lot of the stuff I’ve read. And now I feel like the recommendations I’ve made are going to make you guys throw me a serious side-eye…

I just finished “The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty” trilogy by Anne Rice. Unlike you, I do NOT embarrass easily, but this series rendered me speechless. When I tell you it’s a rare thing for me to be speechless.. Understatement. A rough read because of the graphic details but impossible to put down because it was just so damn HOTT!! I’ve never been an avid reader or a fast reader. I blew through ALL THREE BOOKS in one week! Thank you for the tips on your reads. I was feeling very “restless” without the glow of my reader as I drift off to sleep. My next purchase is Bared To You, upon your recommendation. And YES… I chose this book because your score of 5/5 for the sexual language. I don’t want to have ANYTHING left to the imagination. :)

If you haven’t read Lisa Marie Rice, you owe yourself this treat, especially if you like a plot with your sex. Her ‘ romantic suspense’ books are best, because they’re heavy on both fronts. The sex is not gratuitous , but when it occurs, there’s a nuclear reactor melt-down: you’re there with them in the clinches.
On another front, why all the vampire junk? Too many authors veering off into that genre. I like my books at least a tad real, a tiny possibility that I could be that heroine…the vampire -rap takes that away entirely.
If any of you know Rice’s work, I’d welcome any suggestions of similar writers.

Sons of Destiny series by Jean Johnson.

OH. MY. WORD. I usually hate romantic smut, it’s not my cup of tea AT ALL, and I also hate that fantasy genre with the swords and the cloaks and the spells, it all just seems so dumb to me, but this one changed my mind, or at least pulled me over long enough to finish these. If the characters are good, then I’m set. (And they sure are!)

If you like a series, this is a good one for you. There are 8 books, each following one of 8 (hot) exiled brothers, and I love (almost) all of them. My friend read the series first, and she like the exact opposite characters that I did, so I guess the ones I didn’t like quite as much are still good and appeal to different people. Plus the setting and underlying storyline is very interesting, which considering my predisposition to avoid this whole genre like the plague says a lot.

Look them up. They suck you in and don’t let go. And give Rydan, Evanor and Morganen hugs for me while you’re there. ;)
