We’ve already established that I’m a giver.

When trollers and skeeves send rude, poorly-written emails, I do them the favor of correcting their grammar. It’s a service I’m proud to provide.

When my friends need something, I’m there for them.

One of the best people I’ve ever known (and will continue to know, especially after this gift) through the magical internet is Momo Fali. Though that’s not her God-given name, it’s how she’s known by me and the collective. Or if your name is Ree, you know her by your given name for her: Meemo Ferly, Mommo Farts, Merlin Ferlin, etc.

Momo is crazy Awesome.

I need your light. You produce a ton. Shine it. xo

Momo has that light from which I feed.

OK, not literally feed from her light like a suckling pig from a teat, but Momo’s infectious goodness permeates.

OK OK, now it sounds like she has some kind of unpronounceable skin disease, of which I can neither confirm nor deny.

My point: Momo, or Diane as very few people know her, is one of my most favorite people ever.

Momo is going through a crappy time, and through that crappy time, she’s finding the light. In her words, the light on which she is focusing through this crappy time:

I (wish) was in Fiji with a raft and a fancy drink and I would see my muse walking toward me on the beach with a Macbook in hand.

I can’t yet fund a trip to Fiji for you, complete with a (what I would consider a fine-looking man meat) muse.

But I do have time to search for photos of an equivalent substitute.

I really should be more embarrassed of my grooming habits than to post a picture of my unshorn eyebrows on the internet.

Considering my shame has withered away to about 10%, I’m not shocked at myself for posting this photo of my badly-in-need-of-a-wax eyebrow. Just imagine the other one is a mirror image.

I’m pretty sure this is a cry for help.

I’ve decided to reverse my stance on being Judgy McJudgypants about people and kids who have sunburns. Living in Florida for my whole life, we see our share of Lobster People. Lobster People are those Northern/Midwestern/British folk who come to sunny Florida, think they can get away with no sunscreen for the first day to start their base tan, then end up babying their unevenly tan-lined, delicate fried skin for the remainder of their vacation.

We (or I if you’re a Floridian who doesn’t want to own up that you actually do this) secretly laugh at you and scoff at your decision to go without sunscreen. “YOU FOOL!” “You’re going to end up with skin cancer, you dolt!” “Good luck getting aloe vera gel back in Ohio, sucka!”

Today, I have a sunburn. It’s not a Def Con 10 Level Lobster Person sunburn, but I have a Def Con 6 Level burn that will result in my face shedding its burnt skin, likening me to a Leper in about 5 days.

I have delicate flower petal skin that’s not just white, it’s somewhere on the level of translucent. I fear the sun and its sunburning rays from May through September spending about $150 worth of sunscreen every summer. I don’t believe in “base tans” or in “laying out” or in “getting some sun.” I know sun is good for me in getting some Vitamin D, but I know I’ll get enough in my regular everyday life, and I don’t need to add additional sun rays to my skin.

My dad has carcinoma and melanoma, and I have bi-annual visits to my dermatologist where my freckly skin is checked and sliced of my *beauty* marks. My 1/2 Irish, all whitey girls are the same way. One of my girls has already been to the dermatologist for a questionable mole, so keeping our skin healthy is a priority for me. Seeing a “healthy glow” on me and my girls makes me nervous. But, I also don’t want to keep my girls locked inside all summer for fear of the sun.

We spent ALL DAY at the pool on Sunday. From 11am to after 5pm yesterday, we swam and ate and played at the resort pool as guests of my sister. Having resort pools within a few minute’s drive is really one of the best things about living in Orlando. Suckit, Northerners!

I applied sunscreen to myself and the girls AT LEAST 3 times each for the 6 hours were were in and out of the pool. I spent about 2 of the 6 hours under the umbrella with my baby niece, aka THE CUTEST BABY IN THE WHOLE WORLD, Paige.

We (not Paige) still got sunburned.

I’m embarrassed and ashamed and my nose feels like it may fall off and I’ll end up looking like Michael Jackson except I refuse to wear sequined epaulettes to distract from my missing nose.

But at least now we all have base tans.

I met Patrick back in the mid 90s when Hootie & the Blowfish was on repeat in the restaurant where we worked. We were both 18 and just out of high school. Apparently, he watched me from afar for about a year before he got up the nerve to ask me out on a real date. I’d been asked out on a real date exactly one time before he asked me. It’s not that I didn’t have boyfriends *ahem* they just didn’t ask me out on real dates.

He was lucky that I had made a mental note that day that I needed to expand my dating pool in order to find better guys. The ones I’d been “dating” were more of the temporary variety, and I was ready for stability.

I was lucky I said yes to his invitation to go out.

He was a short, skinny 18-year-old waiter with a very cute face.

I was a short, skinny 18-year-old hostess with a hot pair of legs.

We were pretty much a match made in future heaven.

He was nice, he liked me, I knew it, and never doubted it.

He asked me to marry him inside Cinderella Castle at Magic Kingdom when we were way too young to be engaged. I said yes, shaking and happy and nervous.

We were married a year (or two?) later in my parent’s backyard in front of about 100 friends and family in the middle of feeder bands from Hurricane Georges in 1998.

We were both 22, me just barely, 9 days after my 22nd birthday.

We were way too young.

It’s worked; we are the lucky ones.

Nearly 15 years together.

And HOLY CRAP we need to get better photos of us together. We look way cuter as child brides.

Over at one of my super Awesome weblogs, We Know Awesome, we’re showcasing the best of the worst Glamour Shots from the ’90s (and sadly the new millennia). I was never subjected to the feather boa accessory that is a requirement in all Glamour Shots photo sessions at the mall. Instead, I was subjected to my mother’s idea of what would make the perfect engagement photo to be published in all of the local papers and put on display for decades to come.

I am not immune from my own What the Fruck Were You Thinking? professional photography session. Mine just happens to be my engagement photo from 1997.

This, my friends, is the handiwork of my mother (who just happens to be on a cruise right now and probably won’t see this post, so don’t think I’m not purposely posting it now because she might be upset that I’m making fun of it).

Turtle necks.

Solid-color bright sweaters.

Creeper over my shoulder.

Perfectly coiffed hair.

A sweater that makes me look 50 pounds heavier than I actually was at the time.

We were just kids. Each only 21-years-old when these photos were taken, we had to do what my mother told us to do. She was paying – she got what she wanted.

Apparently, this is what she wanted:

The stuff dreams are made of.

It’s OK to laugh and make fun – we do. Often.

Sidenote: My kids’ first reaction at seeing the picture: “Mama! You have no owies on your face!” That’s right, kids. I had no acne at 21, but I do at 34, BECAUSE I GAVE BIRTH TO YOU, my face is wrought with “owies.” Jerks.

I’m super not good with follow-through, especially with things I set up for myself to accomplish.

So this is why you’ll understand why there was no Pick-a-Random-Photo-from-My-Flickr Sunday for last Sunday (see also: Vegas). But really, no one reads or pays attention to blogs during December anyway, so I could be here telling you that I’m pregnant, and no one would give two shits.

And like I said in the last Pick-a-Random-Photo-from-My-Flickr Sunday post, posting pictures are easy, like me. SO WHY AM I STILL TYPING? (see: not good with follow-through.)

Since my kids are already in bed, and my dogs are useless when it comes to picking a random number, I’m asking the Twitter for a random number between 1 and 227. I’ll pick a photo from the Flickr page the first responder gives me.
