I live for seeing teeny red light lit on the front the DVR then having that 2-3 second pause after pressing the “list” button on the remote before showing me the glory of what’s waiting for me.

Real Housewives of Somewhere, The Good Wife, Real Housewives of Somewhere Else, 5 new House Hunters International, this week’s HBO documentary, and a new MTV’s True Life all await me.

When the children are at school, the husband is at work, and the DVR is ready, it’s the best feeling in the world, save for kid birthing, spouse marrying, and the like.

But the anxiety of wondering if will I have the time to watch it all before my time alone is over?

There’s nothing better.

It’s pretty much the best nearly modern-day Christmas movie that gets better as the years go by.

All day this Saturday, TBS is running A Christmas Story back-to-back for the entire 24 hours of Christmas Eve.

Picture me, sitting on my parent’s couch, introducing it to my girls. It will be pretty much the 2nd best day ever.

I’m addicted to TV.

Thank you, Captain Obvious.

I have no shame in my game of TV-watching. It makes me happy to see new shows start, old shows come back, and all of the hype that goes with everything TV. Coming from a home where the TV was on at all times and was made a priority for family time, I can blame my parents for instilling my respect for television.

If I could afford have multiple HD DVRs set up to my DirecTV dish, I would. Maybe I should start a fund. * notes to self *

Sadly, the one over-priced DirecTV HD DVR is all we have for recording my precious, and that’s capped at 40 season passes and recording two shows at a time, so I have to pick and choose what I’m going to record on any given night during the Fall TV premiere season.

Weep with me, nerds!

I like to think of myself as a professional TV-watcher, where “professional” does not equal “getting paid,” but I watch like it’s my job. I’ve thought about developing a TV-centered blog or website, but then I’d be watching TV for work and not pleasure. That? Would be a travesty.

However, if anyone wants to hire me to live-tweet any live televised event, I’m your girl. I’ll live-tweet the shite out of award shows, sporting events, important Presidential speeches for you. * hand phone ringy dingy * call me *

With all of the TV I love, there are things on the boob tube that irk me. I’m finicky about what I watch, though I’m sure Patrick would argue that recording The World According to Paris (RIP) is the opposite of being finicky. So I’m arguing back with, “IT WAS THE SUMMER AND NOTHING ELSE WAS ON FOR ME TO WATCH WHAT DO YOU EXPECT FROM ME?”

As of today at this moment, I’ve made a short list of what’s bothering me on TV. Think of it as Robert is Bothered, but with a less sexy version of Jimmy Fallon’s Robert Pattinson impersonation.

• That new show, Whitney, about one of my favorite comedians, Whitney Cummings, has cast an actor to be her boyfriend/husband/ubiquitous level-headed male that, even from just seeing the onslaught of premiere episode commercials, can’t act. Like, he may be a worse actor than Keanu Reeves. As much as I like Whitney Cummings, I don’t think I’ll be able to watch the show with him on it.

• I admit it: I watch daytime TV. The Talk is CBS’s wannabe version of The View, just with different ladies around a different table in a different studio on a different coast. Same show, different time. I didn’t want to like the show just because of its blatant rip-off of another show, but I started watching it, and I started to like Leah Remini, Holly Robinson Peete, and the other 3 co-hosts and their rapport. I might have actually laughed out loud at Leah and Holly’s antics. But at the last minute, like a week or two before the show returned from summer hiatus, they replaced Leah and Holly. According to both women and their Twitter streams, they were basically “not asked to return.” Of course, with my interest in TV dramas, I tuned in this past Tuesday to see how they were going to explain the replacements of Molly Shannon (love her) and another lady (she was annoying). ONLY THEY DIDN’T. No mention from Julie Chen, Sara Gilbert, or Sharon Osborne as to why the two other co-hosts magically disappeared. Nothing. So, I won’t be watching any longer. Any show that refuses to acknowledge a major change is a show I can’t watch.

• Craig T Nelson’s hair during the first season of Parenthood still bothers me. I’ve never recovered.

• Two- and three-hour long reality shows should be against the law. Period. It’s stupid and lazy and it bothers me. Drawing out the fake drama of The Bachelor/-ette/Pad makes me want to mail the producers an envelope of herpes. Cut that crap down, and make your shows actually good enough to watch.

• The cable networks (TNT, A&E, HBO, USA, etc) have started airing their original series in mini seasons of 10-12 shows rather than the traditional 24+ episode season. I realize they’re doing this to be able to air their shows (which, many times, are so much better than the network’s) during the Big 4′s off-season, but just when I get into watching a season and invested in what’s going on with characters, BOOM!, they end the season. That leaves me with 6-12 months of not having some of my favorite shows to watch, and in the meantime, forgetting what happened on the previous season. Can we all get together and decide on airing whole seasons with weekly shows back-to-back with NO REPEATS during the season (which BTW, is another major irk)?

This list is in no way comprehensive, so of course you have your own ideas of what bothers you on TV. What is it? No detail is too small (see: Craig T Nelson’s hair).

How appropriate that today, the day after the MTV VMAs, I’m at Curvy Girl Guide hosting a Pep Rally for the Fall TV season? My tweet-a-thon that brings out the snarkiest in me is a kick-off for all of my shows returning to my TeeVee.

When you’re a born and bred vidiot like me, you live for the Fall when kids return to school and the best and newest shows call to me from within the Black Box of Joy. I load up my DVR scheduler with 40 of my favorite returning series and a few of the most promising premieres.

The new shows start in the upcoming weeks, so if you want to find me, I’ll be in front of the TV, which come to think of it, is no different than any other day.

If you don’t know by now that I’m a TV nerd, you don’t know me at all.

Last night’s episode of Game of Thrones “Baelor” was, to say the least, EPIC. I don’t believe in spoilers, so I won’t go into details, but if you’re not watching this show on HBO, I DON’T EVEN WANT TO KNOW YOU.

So what if that’s going too far. I feel that strongly about this show. It is… mind-blowingly good. Watch it. You will thank me and want to send me a Dothraki mad man of my very own.

I read a blog post this morning (chocked full of spoilers) where a TV critic/commentator used “Game of Thrones” and “Sons of Anarchy” in the same sentence.

And something on me gasmed. I still haven’t recovered.

Clearly, someone should pay me to write TV reviews.

If you know me at all, you know I watch a lot of TV, whereby “a lot” means, “the TV is always on, except when I am sleeping in my bed.” Lately, I’ve seen Paul Reiser on many talk shows promoting his new self-titled 1/2-hour comedy show that’s not-so-loosely based on his real life. I enjoyed Mad About You, not particularly him, but that’s not my point. Well, maybe it’s my point that I’m not really a Paul Reiser fan, so I may feel a little judgmental when I watch the show clip he’s promoting.

The gist of the clip is that after Mad About You ended 11 years ago, Paul Reiser decided to stay home from working as an actor and raise his children while his wife went to school and started her career. He tells his “friend” in the show that he was filling out a school form for his son, and in the box marked “Father’s Occupation,” he didn’t know what to put down. During TV interviews, he tells a story of when his son asked him, “Daddy, what do you DO?” and to his son, he doesn’t have an answer.

It’s not unusual these days that men stay home and the mother works. It’s also not unusual that women stay home with the children while the father works outside the home.

But I’m wondering, why is it that no one is questioning Paul Reiser’s lack of equality in how stay-at-home mothers have felt for MANY years when they are asked “What do you DO?” This was a question men weren’t typically asked 20+ years ago, but in today’s society, stay-at-home dads should have just as much honor in saying, “What I DO is raise my children.”

Maybe I’m overly sensitive. Maybe I should watch the show to see which direction Paul Reiser is taking his stay-at-home dad status. Or maybe I’m right-on in my judgements.

Last week, Dexter was back at work doing what he does so well: creeping everyone out. This week, Dexter will try to woo Julia Stiles away from the dark side and into his dark lair. Another reason to watch: BABY HARRISON IS SO DAMN CUTE.

Jimmy’s whore girlfriend (what? she really was) shot herself dead in the head, and now Jimmy is after another heist. Hilarity ensues! Or something with alcohol and guns and naked ladies and people getting their heads blown off.

Another week, another reason to love Peggy and want to stab Don draper in the neck while he’s mounting me.

I grew up in a time where there was no DVR *gasp* and we only had 2 TVs in the whole house *gasp*. One TV in the family room, and one TV in my parent’s bedroom. We lived like that for 18 years until I bought my own TV. Tough times, I know.

Kids nowadays have at least 4 TVs in the house, at least one DVR, and several DVD players. (Where I say “kids nowadays” I mean my spoiled kids.) When my girls are home all day for a vacation or just me & Claire on a Friday, they aren’t stuck watching my shows.

They are lucky lucky bastards.

OK, so not really bastards cause they have a daddy.

But still, they’re friggin lucky.

They have DVRd Yo Gabba Gabbas, DVDs of Elmo, and a whole TV tuned into Nick Jr 24/7.

And? AND? I just took a break from writing this post (really, just now) to BUY a friggin “Martha Speaks” episode for MY iPhone for THEM to watch.

Spoiled.

Also, lame.

Which, brings me back to how lame it is that my kids don’t have to sit through the shows I had to sit through as a kid.

Quality shows like “All My Children” and “Guiding Light” (RIP).

My mother was addicted. In fact, until about 6 months ago, she would DVR every single episode of “One Life to Live” and “Guiding Light” and watch every single minute.

Which brings me to these days where I don’t watch soaps.

Also, I lied.

I watch one: “All My Children.”

I mean, it’s on. I don’t watch-watch it. I don’t DVR it. I don’t rewind unless it’s important.

But my kids will never have to suffer through know about Erica Kane and her 11 husbands, how Greenlee came back from the dead, how Tad Martin is everybody’s dad, what really happened to Dixie, how the TV world still mourns Stuart’s passing, and wonder just why Ryan had sex with Erica. I mean, ew. That’s just… ew.

Are my kids ever going to understand the complexities of Pine Valley and how people come back from the dead at least twice or how marriages never last or how DNA tests can be bought off?

I can only feel sorry for them and their lack of soap opera knowledge.

I’m pretty much a semi-obsessive.

Fortunately it’s not anything bad like cocaine, or alcohol, or plastic surgery (OH EM GEE, have you seen the “new” Heidi Montag? Fake face, much?)

My semi-obsession wants wain with the wind. (Alliteration much?) It could be books (hello, Twilight!), hot dogs (every day for lunch), games (play me on Words with Friends – awholelotofnothing), or a TV show (oh, Weeds, when will you return?).

Currently, it’s Dexter.

If you’ve been reading me for a while or if you know me for reals, you know I’m a TV whore. I’m not signing up to take part in a “TV-Free Week” with my kids. I’m not purging my DVR list. I’m not turning it off for the good of the green earth. (I bought a carbon offset for my UPS shipment today. That $.30 should carry me over for my inner Earth Mother for at least a month.)

Don’t you dare make me turn off my 50 inches of plasma love. Do you realize what happened the last time I went without a giant TV? Major breakdownage. 3 whole months without HDTV. I know. I still shudder.

And now, Dexter. It’s a shocker SHOCKER SHOCKER for you to hear that I’ve never watched it. I know. I. KNOW! After literally years of hearing all the good stuff about it, I finally decided I needed to watch it. But how?

Netflix.

I *tingle* as I type it: **Netflix**

(did you feel it? i totally did.)

I signed back up for the 4th or 5th time. Every other time I’ve signed up, we’d get a movie then keep it for 3 months and eventually send it back when we paid enough in monthly fees to pay for 4 movies. bygones.

I got my disk in the mail, put it in (that’s what she said), and WHAM BAM, THANK YOU MA’AM.

Instant obsession.

I watched the first two seasons in 4 days on DVD and on my lappy. Yes, I’d sit here, Tweet, blog, listen to hockey, and watch Dexter.

I totally wanna lick on Dexter’s Michael C. Hall’s tum tum.

I mean. Look.

He’s the best-looking serial killer since Ted Bundy, but that creepo was totally un-doable. Plus I was like un-born and a baby when he was on his rampage when he killed those innocent girls. Not that it would have totally stopped him, cause, you know, he was a crazy serial killer. Dexter Morgan only kills bad guys who deserve it. He’s a good guy by default. And he can’t help it, right? RIGHT? Otherwise, why would Oprah bestow those abs on such a bad man?
