See…what had happened was…was that I booked my returning flight from New York to Orlando to depart at 7:30pm.
I figured there’d be tons of things to do on the Sunday after BlogHer, and surely at least one friend was staying later in the day, too. Such was not the case, and I really missed my babies after not seeing them for 2 weeks (they had been at Camp Gramma), so I called Delta on Saturday night, trying to get an earlier flight out of LGA.
Apparently, there’s no such thing as “standby” with the Friendly Skies any longer; they now have a call-3-hours-prior-to-desired-flight-departure-for-availability-in-your ticket-class policy. Tena was already going to the airport, leaving our rented apartment at 8am, so I tagged along with her to LGA figuring I could sweet-talk a hardened ticket agent to squeeze me on an earlier flight. But my girlie flirtations seem to have lost their luster, and no one was willing to pull some strings in my favor.
One thing turned into another, and I ended up spending the entire day at Laguardia waiting for my original 7:30pm flight. (Note to LGA: I love your Gate D iPads and charging station booths. We’re now engaged because I’m no longer an airport-sleeper virgin. True story.) Around 3pm, things started getting messy in the greater NY area as a nasty storm rolled in.
Pandemonium ensued: flights were canceled, people were left on the Tarmac just shy of the legally-allowed timeframe, planes were diverted, travelers drank heavily, delays ran rampant. It got crazy enough that I consciously paid $16 for a macaroni & cheese dinner.
Hours passed. As delay alerts kept rolling into to my phone, I ordered and ate over-priced crème brûlée, and my butt fell numb at least 3 times.
Thank the Baby Jeesus that I had remembered my Crazy Pills that morning and took on the delay like the highly medicated champ they make me.
It’s about to go Hunger Games up in LGA Terminal C. I’m scoping out the best space to sleep, probably tied up in a tree.

Start giving me +Ks in “piloting” so I can get enough Klout to go out and fly this plane.

This made me laugh so damn hard, mostly because I was totally following your Tweets last night, and the Hunger Games one made spit out my water (wine, whatever). This is awesome! You should probably send this to Delta. And LGA.

Swag was available on the plane in the form of 4oz sodas and cookies? pretzels? trail mix?

I am so, so sorry that this happened to you, but I have to say, I laughed my ass off reading your Twitter feed this morning. When life hands Angie-Pangie crap, she makes crap-ade. Or something. I don’t know. I already took my Crazy Pills tonight.
P.S. I am still really freaking sad that I wasn’t there.

Ah yes, it’s the overpriced food that really adds to the misery. I usually end up spending my airport day at LAX or O’Hare. But at least you made it home safe. =)
Not related, but how do you style those tweets in your post? Is there a plug-in for that?

On Twitter, you can get embed code from the tweet’s details page. The key tho is to publish with the post edit still in the code tab.

I was in Terminal C where there wasn’t even any wifi. Hell, I was happy to move to the tarmac because at least the headrest was adjustable.
Lucky for me, I didn’t go out to Terminal C until an hour before I was scheduled to depart. If I’d spent all day at C, I would be checking into the looney bin FOR SURE. That place is a dungeon.

Oh man. I don’t know that I’ve ever been so happy to live so close to NYC. The post-BlogHer airport stories are too much.

My flight left at 10:59 am. We still sat on the tarmac for an hour and that was without storms yet. Your trip home was much more entertaining than mine!
You got LUCKYYYYY…

Yeah I tried the same thing in Atlanta the other week. No go. Had to sit at the airport for way to long. Will never do that without calling first again.

You all need to fly out of Newark next time. There will still be delays and shit, but from there you can easily take the train to my house.

LGA has some fancy restaurants in Terminal D. If there’s ever a place to be stuck for the day, it’s Terminal D at LGA.

I can’t even imagine. I would have lost my mind. And also probably would have drank all the alcohol in the entire terminal.

If I had All The Money, I totally would have considered it. But airport alcohol is like hotel alcohol: insanely over-priced.
