The Slightly Boring Mini-Autobiography of a Future Agoraphobic.

My mom will be the first one to tell you that I’m not good at trying new things. She reverts back to what she’s said my whole life: “You didn’t even want to be born. You were in my belly, holding onto your umbilical cord yelling, ‘NO! I DON’T WANT TO DO SOMETHING NEW!’”

I was born 10 days past my due date.

So to say I’ve lived my life with my heels dug into the dirt, going kicking and screaming into doing something new, is pretty much the 100% truth. If I DO do something new, it’s because I’ve researched it, planned it, and made a pros/cons list about whatever it is that’s the “new thing.”

The comfort of my recliner with my lappytop on my lap and my remote control at my side is where I tend to like to keep myself for he greater part of my life. Even right now at this very second, I’m having a hard time thinking of the last time I tried something new.

If we’re talking about food, I’ll try just about anything that doesn’t include olives and/or organ meat.

If we’re talking about an amusement park ride, I’m all about it as long as it doesn’t spin me around like a gravatron or require a barf bag within an arm’s length.

If we’re talking about a new TV show, I’m good about sniffing out the best new ones to watch.

So I asked Patrick to help me come up with something new I’ve tried recently… Or even not recently…

Him: “You tried wine a few weeks ago.”

Him: “You rode Mission Space this past weekend.”

Him: “We tried the new New Orleans restaurant last week.”

Him: “You started blogging a few years ago. You started a business on your own.”

Me: “OH, I KNOW! I went to BlogHer all by myself in ’09!”

Me: “Also, I tried running last summer! But then I broke my leg.”

So, there you have it, friends. Proof that my daring, wild side is just the opposite of what would be described as either “daring” or “wild.”

With my brain chemistry mix of anxiety and ADD, I’ve got a certain future in living the life of an agoraphobic. I can only hope my hoarding tendencies are outweighed by my agoraphobia. Either way, maybe I’ll be noticed by TLC and get to be featured on a reality/documentary show.

Now, THAT would be something new I could try.

Until then, I’m SO up for trying any new restaurant that opens near me. I just don’t want to have to travel outside of my 20-mile-radius comfort zone.

You may not be adventurous, but you’re brave – you put it all “out there” on your blog. You’re fearless!

“I went to BlogHer all by myself in ’09″ – to most people that doesn’t sound daring. To any woman who has gone to BlogHer by herself the first time? It’s way impressive. That many women who are that driven, articulate, and shoe conscious are daunting!! :)

It’s all perspective hon! :)

Going by yourself to Blogher is HUGE! I am dying to go to Blogher, but I have no peeps, so…..yeah. Maybe next year. I’m definitely not as daring as you. I can see me going by myself and being the creepy weird girl in the corner, or getting completely wasted and embarrassing myself so bad that I’m “That Girl” to all the bloggers. You know the one.

there are over 2000 people there. as long as you know people you want to meet, you’re not alone.
