This? Is not OK: Matchy-Matchy

by Angie [A Whole Lot of Nothing] on September 14, 2009

in Pictures,This? Is Not OK

We are frequent Disney World users visitors. I worked there in the late 90′s (or as I like to call it, the skinny days). We’ve been going on and off a lot over the last 13 years that we’ve lived in Orlando.

No matter what your thoughts are regarding the happy happy fake times at Disney, we loves it.

The stalkers observers that we are, we spot the outfits of those around us at the Mouse House. Big families, small families, matching families.

Those families that all dress alike to be able to find one another in a crowd.

THOSE families.

I kind of get the point in doing the matchy-matchy at the Land o’ Happy, but it can go too far.

Here, my dear friends, is the matchy-matchy couple who needs a serious intervention. I’m guessing the mom is the one in the dress.

Oh yes, that’s a surfin’ Mickey pattern.

I can get you one in your size if you need. Just let me know.

That is COUTURE, dah-ling.

Disney Couture:)

(when the powers that be intervene, may I request that the gentleman sporting the Hawaiian-style shirt be given a small trim?)

I wonder if they failed to bring appropriate clothes on vacation with them?

This reminds me of seeing tourists in the same blue generic Hawaiian print from the ABC store [drug/convenience store] in Hawaii.

It *might* be a packing fail. Or an airline-luggage fail. Maybe. :P

you’re giving them more credit than i think they deserve.

Those two need more than your bog standard intervention – they need to be kept further than 100m from each other at all times!

I am only okay with matchy matchy when it is a large group going to the House of the Mouse…yanno, so they can find each other in a crowd. Even then, it gives me the bad shivers!

I get dressing kids alike, so that when your bratty little one runs off, you can point at his older brother’s shirt and say “He’s wearing this!” But the entire family? Or just two adults who like Disney so much they go without children, wearing matching Mickey print clothes? Tis a little much methinks.

What would be even scarier is if these were handmade. But that you can buy adult matching Mouse-y outfits even at the Happiest Place on Earth, is still wrong on so many levels.

That? Is what happens when people get soaking wet on Splash Mountain and are forced to spend $100 on overpriced clothes in the Disney gift shop. At least that’s what I’d like to think.

“I’m guessing the mom is the one in the dress.”

Ah yes. I head to Mouse Central (West Coast version) next week sans kids for a conference (I know, I love my job) and I can’t wait to see folks like these. It’s the costumed character of this generation. I’m helping my children overcome their fear of large costumed characters and teaching them to fear people like this. It’s Stepford wives meets Disney I tell you. For all that is good and holy, it must be stopped.

The Daver and I went out a couple of weeks ago, both of us wearing black and white track jackets, unintentionally. And I do mean it, we weren’t trying to match. I cannot tell you how douchy I felt. I ditched him for awhile, and even then, I felt lame.

But this, this is just. Wow.

AWESOME.
