THIS? Is Not OK: Your iPad Is Not A Camera

by Angie [A Whole Lot of Nothing] on December 17, 2013

in Being Mom,Kiddos,This? Is Not OK

Yes, your iPad/tablet/big-ass-portable-device has a camera on it.

No, that camera on your iPad/tablet/big-ass-portable-device is not for taking out in public and recording your most precious memories.

This is a photo from Claire’s holiday chorus performance at her school last night. I counted no less than 10 iPads/tablets/big-ass-portable-devices being used as video and still cameras.

You can see 2 of the offenders in this photo I took with my iPhone from the last row:

iPhone is Not a Camera

There are so many offenders of this recent asshole behavior, of course there is a website devoted to outing them: iPad is Not a Camera.

You should make a poster sized fake ipad and hold it up next time.

It’s okay if I do it in the privacy of my own home, however, right? B-cuz it’s super easy to stealthily switch to video cam mode while my kids are dancing about willy-nilly believing momma’s “just reading”. I get me some super cute spontaneous clips like that.

TOTALLY OK to do it in your own house.

Ok, I admit it, I skyped with my sister in front of the Queen’s Palace in London. WITH MY iPAD. Yes, I looked like an asshole but I showed my nieces and nephew the changing of the guard. :-)

I see this at Disneyland all the time. Ridiculous. And who brings an iPad to Disneyland?! Crazy.

try as i might, i can’t quite work out exactly how this infringes on the general public…this exact scene played itself out as i watched my niece in a holiday performance. one guy was ichatting w/a relative who was sick and couldn’t be there in person. i didn’t hear any conversing nor did that H U G E iPad block my view…
so is it bc someone else says it shouldn’t be done the reason these parents become assholes?? and this does beg the question: did apple forget to notify its users that the camera was ‘not to be used like a conventional camera to capture/video events OUTside the home’. but rather just for your intimate home videos…
this is pretty elitist…what is the difference (besides aesthetics) in using a mobile phone or tablet?
if one can remember back far enough, a VHS recorder was roughly the same size as an iPad. . .soooooo, why is this a problem again?????

You know what this reminds me of? When iPads were first becoming popular, there was a guy online who posted something along the lines of, “This is how stupid y’all motherfuckers look with those big old iPads…” captioning a mirror selfie of him holding up a cookie sheet. Hahaha!
